WBEC-TV CHANNEL 63

In 2000, the School Board of Broward County Florida (SBBC) purchased a community broadcast channel, now WBEC-TV Channel 63 (BECON TV), licensed by the FCC to provide non-commercial, educational programming. The station’s mission is to provide unique programming for our diverse community to enhance the quality of life and promote education, knowledge, and lifelong learning as a valuable asset to individuals and the community.

WBEC-TV broadcasts many BECON-produced original educational program series, including Science & Me, Putting Geometry on the Map, It’s the Write Time, and more. BECON also produces and airs programs of interest to the local South Florida community, including County Line (public affairs), New Haitian Generation (cultural interest), and Dateline Health (medical information). BECON also produces and airs programs featuring the creative talent of local students, such at Broward Teen News (student news reporting) and Short Cuts (short film features).

The broadcast and local cable/satellite carrier coverage for WBEC reaches all of Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties, including both the Miami-Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach-Fort Pierce designated market areas (DMAs). WBEC is viewed locally on Channel 63 over-the-air and on Uverse, DirecTV, Dish, and other carriers, and on Channel 19 (488 HD) on Comcast Xfinity.
