The BECON Distance Learning Department offers educational videoconference classes and programs to Pre-Kindergarten through high school students and teachers. The department also is home to Broward Virtual School.
BECON’s Distance Learning Program offer supplementary educational programs to all Broward County elementary schools. There is also a variety of virtual field trips for high school students and teachers. Our virtual field trips transform the classroom into an environment where interactive learning is extended beyond the classroom into a world of global learning. Up to 6,000 students participate in BECON Distance Learning programs each week. Ninety-one percent of participating teachers report that our programs enhance their teaching skills.
BECON Distance Learning event web-streaming capabilities enable us to web cast videoconference events to the desktop computer. State-of-the-art web-streaming technology delivers quality programming that can be delivered live or on demand to computers, tablets, and smart phones.
Broward Virtual School offers full-time enrollment to elementary, middle and high school students through online learning systems. BVS partners with Florida Virtual School and K12 Florida for curriculum. Broward County students also have the opportunity to take middle and high school courses online on a part-time basis to supplement their traditional school schedule. All courses are taught by Broward County teachers. To date, Broward students have completed over 35,000 course enrollments through virtual learning at Broward Virtual School. Broward Virtual School earned an “A” rating from the Florida Department of Education in the 2009-2010 school-year. Broward Virtual School is recognized as the leader in virtual education in Florida’s 67 school districts.
